With the machine offered by the All Automatic Machine Co., Cleveland, and another by the Domine Concrete Tile Co., Rochester, N. Y. With both machines there are but two manual operations, one feeding pallets into the machine, the other taking them out with fresh tile on them--these operations, of course, in addition to maintaining the hopper of the machine full of mixed concrete, and the color box full of the cement and color mix. With the All Automatic machine (Fig. 1) pallets move forward on a track, the last pallet fed in pushing the others forward by means of an arm that moves backward and forward to admit each new pallet and push it forward one pallet length into the machine. Lubricating oil is pumped automatically on to the tile in a fine spray just before the concrete goes under the concrete hopper. The concrete used is of a much wetter consistency than is employed in most products of this kind, and it falls of its own weight from the hopper on to the pallet, rolls out at the farther side under a roller template, which applies pressure to the concrete and gives it its proper shape. The surplus concrete is rolled back into the hopper. The pallets that fill the track between the concrete hopper and the delivery end of the machine are covered by a continuous ribbon of concrete, the pallets being close fitting, end on end. This ribbon borne by the pallets moves next under the color box. The color, which is pre-mixed with cement (or under ideal circumstances, as the All Automatic people propose), is re-ground with cement, is deposited on the surface of the tile or ribbon of concrete in dry form, a shake...
